Lead Patient Progression Across Our Health System The Billings Clinic–Logan Health system is seeking an accomplished and collaborative healthcare executive to serve as its System Vice President of Patient Progression and Throughput. This executive leader will provide strategic direction and operational oversight for patient progression across the health system. The position is accountable for advancing clinical quality, patient safety, access, operational performance, growth, and financial results across the continuum of care. Working closely with administrative, physician, nursing, and operational leaders, the System Vice President will lead initiatives that improve patient access, care coordination, capacity utilization, and the safe and efficient movement of patients across all sites of care. The System Vice President will work in a dyad partnership with Chief Medical Officers to support the integrated delivery of high-quality services throughout the system. This partnership also extends to rural physicians, referring organizations, post-acute providers, and community partners that share responsibility for clinical, operational, financial, and strategic outcomes. Location: Billings, Montana Schedule: Full-time | Day Shift Employment Status: Exempt Billings Clinic Requisition: req12406 Compensation: Starting wage dependent upon experience What You’ll Do Provide executive leadership for system-wide patient throughput, access, and care coordination, including oversight of Transfer Center, Patient Flow, and Nursing Coordinator operations. Establish system governance, operating models, staffing expectations, productivity standards, and performance measures that support strategic, quality, and service outcomes. Lead system-wide standards for clinical appropriateness and level-of-care placement, ensuring approved criteria are applied consistently across facilities. Partner with physician, nursing, and administrative executives to align placement and capacity decisions with quality, safety, regulatory requirements, and organizational strategy. Develop and execute an enterprise patient-access and physician-services strategy that prioritizes demand across service lines and facilities. Lead a portfolio of patient-progression and throughput initiatives designed to improve time to bed, patient experience, capacity utilization, and operational predictability. Collaborate with hospital presidents, Chief Nursing Officers, Chief Medical Officers, ancillary leaders, and other stakeholders to identify constraints, remove barriers, and standardize leading practices across the system. Sponsor system-wide performance-improvement programs, establish multiyear goals, recommend investments, and allocate resources to support sustainable clinical and financial results. Establish measurable performance expectations through key performance indicators, executive dashboards, operational reviews, and corrective-action planning. Direct regional and rural access strategies in collaboration with hospital executives and Rural Health leadership. Strengthen referral relationships and align transfer pathways with system growth, network integrity, access needs, and community priorities. Lead the development and optimization of relationships with transport providers, skilled nursing facilities, long-term acute care hospitals, critical access hospitals, and community-based services. Advance transition-of-care strategies that improve capacity, reduce length of stay, and support positive patient outcomes throughout the system. Recruit, develop, coach, and mentor leaders across patient-throughput functions while establishing succession plans, leadership competencies, and effective escalation pathways. Establish documentation and data-governance standards that support compliance, audit readiness, continuity of care, analytics, and executive decision-making.
