Staff Nurse I - Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) (50% Part-Time, Flex Days)

Position Summary Staff Nurse I is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework. The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the Staff Nurse I functions as an interdisciplinary team member who provides quality patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals. Duties Responsibilities Provides direct patient care.  Adheres to UI Health’s Code of Conduct. Assures safety and security of patients, significant others and staff. Acts as a professional leadership role model. Adheres to and enforce the Medical Center's Code of Conduct.  Serves as preceptor and/or resource to other nursing staff and students. Demonstrates in-depth clinical knowledge, skills and expertise. Clinical Other duties as assigned. Professional/Leadership Motivates and manages nurses, technicians, and other healthcare workers Promotes and supports Shared Leadership as the selected method of nursing governance. Responsible for continued professional growth/development by identification of learning needs and initiates strategies to meet such needs Participates in developing and implementing quality indicators.  Treats patients/families, staff, students and visitors with respect and dignity. Engages support personnel by delegating appropriate tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provides support and feedback. Organizational Utilizes established communication channels to resolve work related problems. Actively participates in organizational communication processes through timely review and response to electronic and written messages. Utilizes NPAS and Clarvia systems to facilitate optimal staffing, scheduling and patient assignments Consistently demonstrates courteous service to internal and external customers. Complies with University Health Services TB and fit-testing requirements Engages and obtains information from patient and/or family to develop an appropriate patient educational plan. Produces regular reports and data analyses as requested to support nursing and hospital key performance. Assimilates information from multiple sources and implements appropriate action plan to provide safe, quality care. In all areas of practice follows established policies, procedures and standards of care. Assumes responsibility for own clinical/professional competence and continuing education. Collaborates with hospital leadership in the management of house wide patient flow and capacity. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
