We are actively seeking lateral applicants who are Colorado POST certified law enforcement officers with School Resource Officer experience and hold a Basic NASRO certification. Salary Benefits: We offer a tiered salary structure based on relevant law enforcement and/or military police experience: Starting salary: $82,148 (Tier 1) Maximum salary: $116,645 (Tier 6) Lateral applicants may receive salary credit for the following experience: 1 year of credit per year as a certified peace officer with another law enforcement agency ½ year of credit per year as a non-certified Deputy Sheriff and/or Military Police Officer For details on salary, benefits and retirement, CLICK HERE Job Summary: School Resource Officers (SROs) are responsible for protecting life, property, and public safety while ensuring a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. As part of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Juvenile Unit, SROs partner with public, charter, and private schools to provide professional law enforcement services while embracing the nationally recognized NASRO TRIAD model of serving as a law enforcement officer, educator, and informal counselor and mentor. Primary duties include, but are not limited to: Provide a highly visible law enforcement presence on assigned school campuses to deter crime and promote safety. Build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community partners through daily engagement and mentorship. Respond to criminal incidents, emergencies, medical calls, behavioral crises, and other calls for service occurring on or near school campuses. Investigate criminal offenses and school-related incidents, prepare comprehensive reports, and coordinate follow-up investigations as needed. Gather, preserve, and document evidence while securing crime scenes in accordance with agency policies and legal standards. Enforce state and local laws, including making arrests when appropriate, and testify in court. Participate in multidisciplinary threat assessments, safety planning, emergency preparedness, and school reunification efforts. Deliver classroom presentations and educational programs on topics such as personal safety, drug awareness, internet safety, traffic safety, and responsible decision-making. Collaborate with school administrators, mental health professionals, juvenile justice partners, and families to identify and address student safety concerns. Promote a safe and orderly educational environment through proactive problem-solving, conflict resolution, and relationship-based policing. Serve as a trusted resource for students, staff, and parents while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and public service. Required Equipment: Deputy Sheriffs are required to supply their own duty handgun and limited personal equipment (undershirts, duty boots, flashlight) prior to being sworn in.
