Civil Project Designer | Rock Island, IL 100% Employee-Owned · Big-firm resources, local-team relationships, ONE IMEG culture IMEG is hiring a Civil Project Designer in Rock Island, IL to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on the delivery of larger and high complexity projects. This role works closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients, with responsibilities that include engineering analysis, design field inspections, report writing, permit applications, and site drainage and grading designs. This position is expected to work within the project’s monetary budget, train and mentor staff, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. Supporting municipal, transportation, and public works projects, this role contributes to resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure. At a Glance Location: Rock Island, IL Discipline: Civil Markets: Municipal; Transportation; Public Works Ownership: 100% employee-owned (ESOP) Travel: Up to 10% Work Schedule: Full-time hybrid Sponsorship: Not available What You'll Do Direct and train Civil Design Technicians in preparing reports, exhibits, plans, specifications, and permit applications required by the project’s contractual scope Lead analysis and design efforts for low to moderate complexity civil site projects Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards Complete and oversee permit applications in coordination with the team, client, and reviewing jurisdiction Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration Interact with clients to gather project requirements, communicate technical information effectively, and build professional relationships Support consulting project execution as part of a project team Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives Document client design decisions and instructions, and monitor project progress as related to percent complete and fee expended Analyze engineering problems and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in civil engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance, interpret state and local design criteria, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager What You'll Bring Required Education Qualifications (one of the following): Option A: Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required Option B: Associates degree, or certificate, in utilizing Autodesk Civil 3D or equivalent software tools or engineering preferred Experience Qualifications (one of the following): Option A: 3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry Option B: 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry Required Skills/Abilities Knowledge of industry standard engineering software, primarily Civil 3D Proficient with pipe networking and road corridors. Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in the civil engineering field Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff Able to lead teams with others that utilize industry standard software that assists with civil engineering analysis and design Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Attention to detail and problem-solving skills Eagerness to adapt to new challenges Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays Preferred Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred About the Team Municipal and transportation-focused civil work serving Rock Island and Macomb, IL Roadway rehabilitation, MFT administration, and construction administration for city and county clients Bridge, culvert, water, and wastewater experience alongside land development and ADA improvements Active across multiple Illinois municipalities including Andover, Silvis, Geneseo, and Carbon Cliff Recent work includes Rock Island 38th St W Reconstruction, Transportation; Geneseo 2025 Municipal Engineering, Government; and Silvis 2025 Municipal Engineering, Government Why IMEG We put people at the center of who we are, creating positive outcomes for people, communities, and our planet.
